Find a Moving Company
When it comes to fulfilling all the requirements of probate, there are times when additional help is needed. Attorneys,
accountants,
appraisers,
financial advisors,
funeral directors,
handymen,
investment managers,
maintenance contractors, and
trust companies are professionals that could prove to be irreplaceable to you during this time. But there is one person you may overlook in this process and that is a moving company. Even if the deceased's financial affairs are settled at the time of their death, they more than likely still have a large volume of personal possessions in their home. If they owned commercial buildings or any businesses, they may also have belongings there.
There are eight main steps in the probate process. Although it usually turns out to be a formality, the first step of probate is to verify the will. If someone disputes the validity of the will, the process cannot resume until the issue has been resolved and the will has been verified. The second step is an inventory of the decedent's documents, property, possessions, and any other assets. These may include a Last Will and Testament as well as bank information and investments.
The third step is to open the estate. This usually involves a probate attorney and the matter is determined in probate court. Fourthly, the decedent's assets are valued. From these assets, the individual's outstanding debts and bills are paid. Number six is to pay income tax and estate tax. The seventh step is to settle any disputes between surviving friends and family members. Sometimes people do not feel as though they received what was due to them and the issue needs to be resolved. Lastly is the distribution of the estate to beneficiaries.
If the decedent owned many personal possessions or large amounts of furniture, it could be difficult to know what to do with it. During a time of grieving, packing and moving is the last thing you would want to do. A moving company could pack a residential home or any offices the individual had. If the estate needs to be sold and divided, this could need to be done as soon as possible. The possessions could also be stored by the moving company until such a time as the family is able to sort and divide the belongings.
